Raw Carrot Laugh

At the grocery store I picked up a bag of raw mini carrots and turned to Laney and said let's buy these.  She looked at me like I had 3 heads and said "Momma I not a reindeer".
In the car I opened the bag and ate 1 - YUM I said.  I passed 1 to her and she took a bite, spit it out in her hand and said "baby reindeer not like hard carrots Momma reindeer you eat it".
At home that night we steamed them and she ate about 10 of them.  Oh my silly little reindeer - LOL

Momma took pictures and Poppy took video. My eyes filled up with tears but they were not rolling down the cheeks so I did pretty good! Laney was fine, no tears, no issues. We than went to the toy store and played. We had a good family day and I finally did it and got my baby's 1st haircut!

REALLY? (nervous, weird, wow, exciting but weird)

Pic # 1 = I could not get a picture of Laney wearing it at her doctors appointment because she was glued to my hip. It was a new allergist/immunologist we saw (who by the way is out of this world awesome, love him) and she had a tight grip on me. There was no way she was letting go so I could get my camera out.

Pic # 2 = After we got home looking very proudly at her arm where she had 6 allergy tests where she did not cry once.  She said OUCH! Momma that nurse lady hurt mine arm.

OK this is where the Really (nervous, weird, wow, exciting but weird news comes in).  Laney is gradually outgrowing her milk allergy and we can start a slow, monitored reintroduction of some milk products.  It has been almost 2 years of milk free and reading every label and bringing her own food everywhere and making special meals and just plain living milk free so I was like Really OK I am nervous, this is weird, wow this is exciting but weird.  Of course the doctor gave us a boatload of info (to much to go into here).  Some good news, some news to be careful of and we will be keeping a log and monitoring her closely but at almost 3 she is gradually outgrowing her milk allergy!!

So we thought 1 bite of pizza with cheese would be a nice photo op.  Well it is a cute photo but she would not touch her lips to it.  No cheese on pizza Laney allergic she said.  So Daddy had the leftover pizza for a few days (no complaints from him on that one).

Chicken and Pasta  OK this is better.  She did not eat the chicken because it had breading on it (she has never had breaded chicken before only grilled or baked) but the pasta oh yes she ate that saying "where Laney soy butter Momma?  It melted on mine pasta". So introduction # 1 no special butter for a taste test.

Yum Bread and Butter out to eat  - she liked this new event.

Momma is going to let Laney have a few tastes of dessert -  happy girl

OK she could get used to this.  I had to eat it so fast so she would only get a few bites and we could take it slow.  WOOOOOOOOO she is just like her Momma lovin the chocolate! So introduction # 2 no special chocolate for a taste test.

All in all neat news.  We will see what the days ahead bring and try to embrace change gradually and slowly. Oh and she got weighed and measured so I updated the growth chart to the left of the main blog page OH growing girl ;)

****update**** Ok the above all happened on 3-16-11 and now it is 3-21-11 and honestly she does not like most of her new taste tests and many of them don't like her either!!  We were told to expect some  issues and we are seeing those.   OH my sweet girl! Baby steps, baby steps we will take baby steps ;)

Happy St. Patrick's Day

2 Shammocks on her head started our morning!  Then  a library field trip with her Mommy and Me school where they made Happy St. Patrick's Day hats, read books, sang songs and had a parade.  Then a quick lunch and off to field trip # 2 at a maple syrup farm.  It was her 1st taste of maple syrup (mixed review some funny faces and no like it but some smiles and more please).  It is not something we eat at home so don't know that she will have it again soon but it was a fun field trip and it was a gorgeous day!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Woodpecker

Poppy and Laney waited in the car as I ran into the store to get bananas (for more chocolate chip banana bread) and limes (for the coronas).  When I came back out to the car the 2 were laughing (the cute deep belly laughs).  Poppy said to me this is something to write down so we can all laugh years from now so here goes:
Laney lets out 5 little itty bitty toots in a row (think of the sound that makes in a row like that) OK than she says "excuse me..............there is a woodpecker in my pants"  March 2011

Goodbye Crib :( *updated 3/12*

trying out her 1st pillow
pretending to sleep
Goodbye Crib, Hello Toddler bed!
It was a big day in our home!  A lot of laughs but a lot of tears too (from Momma of course trying to not let Laney see).  15 years hubby and I have been together dreaming of having babies and to take the crib down made me just CRY!  Time flies when your having fun and being a mother to Laney is the BOMB.  It is just awesome, awesome, awesome.  My tears are happy tears of course and I know this stage ends and more great ones are to come but my tears keep flowing - ohhhh even right now writing this.  Enjoy the pictures of the big goodbye crib, hello toddler bed day and we will see what the morning brings.  Sweet dreams in your toddler bed Laney oh and sleep in tomorrow morning ;)
*update 3/12/11* It went really well.  After about ten minutes alone in her room we heard a little whimper so we went back in and held her hand and told her how much we loved her and we would be here.  A few minutes later we left the room and she was asleep about 15 minutes later.  Not a peep throughout the night.  About 9:00am I heard "Momma Laney awake now in mine big girl bed!"  Proudly I ran in and made a huge huge huge deal of her following the rules and not getting out of her big girl bed.  She was so proud!  Twice during the day she brought up "A little scared big girl bed Momma".  We know she is a creator of habit and change is hard so we will keep reassuring her.  All in all pleased with how well it went!

March 8th

March 8th has been a BIG day in our lives:
3/8/2006 - China logged in our adoption paperwork = LID!
3/8/2007 - 1 year since LID & that should have been the time frame to getting our baby girl.
3/8/2008 -  2 years since LID & stressed out, sad, concerned oh the list of emotions was huge!
3/8/2009 - 3 years since LID & excited (we finally saw our baby girl just 1 month later 4/3/2009!)
Now when March 8th rolls around hubby and I talk about how that wait was so difficult but now we know it had to be that way.  It lead us to our precious Laney.  We can not imagine a better fit for our family.  If the wait was shorter maybe we would not have our Laney? I do just have to say if you are reading this and you are still waiting for your match.....I know how hard it is and I know no matter what anyone else said it did not make it easier.  It really is true if you can hang in there, keep waiting because the joy, the gift, the match is sooooooooooooooooooo amazing!!!!  Than that LID becomes a date that was meant to be that way ;)

Ladies and Gentlemen

Laney is a big performer.  Daily she puts on shows of all kinds.  It is funny she seems to always start her shows by standing up and saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Children of all Ages, enjoy Laney's show (with the arms swinging like a circus ringmaster)."  The shows changes daily(ok hourly)......drums, harmonica, guitar, violin, piano, saxophone, triangle, moroccos, cymbals, singing, dancing, gymnastics oh yes it is a fun time in this house ladies and gentlemen ;)

When Bigger

Laney has been talking a lot about when she is bigger.
The other day Laney said: "Laney grow bigger Laney be doctor"
Momma said: "GREAT, who do you want to take care of"?
Well her response has changed almost weekly lately:
1 = Doctor for Grandma's
2 = Doctor for babies
3 = Doctor for animals
4 = Doctor for babies in China
5 = Doctor for Mommies
6 = Doctor for astronauts
I LOVE THIS GIRL!

WHY (already)

I guess I really never thought the "why" (not exaggerating at least 30 times a day) would start already at 2 1/2 years old.  The past few months it has been why, why, why, why over and over all day long.  The good news is great she wants to learn, great she wants to verbalize and communicate.  The bad news wow it makes mommy tired ;)
Just 1 example of many in the why world I am living in:
Laney: "Where Madelyn"?
Momma: "Madelyn is at school Honey".
Laney: "Why Momma"?
Momma: "When you get bigger you go to school everyday".
Laney: "Why Momma"?
Momma: "So you can learn tons of things".
Laney: "Why learn Momma"?
Momma: "So you can grow up very smart, love your work and make money".
Laney: "Yeah make money go out to eat Yeah"!
Momma: is now bent over laughing :) I swear the girl loves to go out to eat and thinks that is why we work to make money to go out to eat - omg!!
Oh p.s. Madelyn is her cousin who just turned 7 .
