Gong Xi Fa Cai

Gong Xi Fa Cai is how you say Happy Chinese New Year (in Mandarin). Speaking it is challenging to learn in my opinion but it blows my mind to think about learning to write it  - 恭禧發財
It means wishing you to be prosperous in the coming year.  February 3rd 2011 begins the year of the Rabbit (Our Family is Daddy = Sheep, Mommy = Pig and Laney = Rat). In China it is also known as Spring Festival. Chinese New Year starts with the New Moon on the first day of the New Year and ends on the full moon 15 days later. The 15th day of the New Year is called the Lantern Festival, which is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade. This year the 3 of us will celebrate on Thursday night and then on Sunday we will celebrate with 30 others!  Pictures to come in the coming week or so. It is so special to celebrate CNY.
